Homophonic!

Bringing the disco ball to the concert hall

Homophonic! New classical music by queer composers. Led by Artistic Director and producer Miranda Hill, Homophonic! is a celebration of queer artistry, and a powerhouse of commissioning.

Running for 15 years, and with a cult following, Homophonic! has commissioned over 60 new solo and chamber works since 2011 from queer Australian composers.

In 2023, Miranda Hill won the "Victorian Luminary" award for her work with Homophonic! at the APRA/AMCOS Art Music Awards.

Homophonic!

  • Flagship Season in co-production with Midsumma Festival. Relaxed show, Audio description,                  

  • Regional tour! Touring show to all 5 regional Victorian Pride festivals. Geelong Rainbow Festival; Daylesford ChillOut; Bendigo Pride; Ballarat Frolic; Shepparton OUT in the OPEN.

  • Homophonic! Pride Prize! Composition competition for LGBTIQA+ Australian composers to work with a solo instrumentalist on a new work to premiere at Homophonic! Supported by Midsumma Festival

  • RESPECT commissioning project. Telling queer elders stories in music and film.  

  • Mentorship and Artistic Development. Early career composers and poets writing new RESPECT pieces.

  • "Homophonic! presents: midyear presentation of major works. 

2025- Moonlite. Wally Gunn and Maria Zajkowski. Fitzroy Town Hall, Shepparton Arts Festival, Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, Ballarat Pride.
